JELEKONGISM: Art Without the Art World
What happens when contemporary art grows from a village instead of an art institution?
Join us for an evening exploring Jelekongism, a hyper-local contemporary art movement from Jelekong Village, Indonesia, presented by Vincent Rumahloine from Yayasan Bubuara Jelekong Indonesia (YBji).
Rather than relying on galleries or the commercial art market, Jelekongism is built through collective painting, artist residencies, community programmes, and local collaboration.
It is a story of how art can emerge from shared knowledge, local materials, and collective memory.
Through this presentation, Vincent will share the philosophy behind YBji and how Jelekong has developed into an independent artistic ecosystem rooted in solidarity and grassroots initiatives.
Because togetherness is at the heart of the project, the evening will continue over a communal Indonesian dinner.

Vincent Rumahloine presents the work and philosophy of Yayasan Bubuara Jelekong Indonesia (YBji), an initiative rooted in Jelekong Village, Indonesia.
Jelekongism approaches contemporary art through collective knowledge, local collaboration, artist residencies, community programmes, and grassroots cultural practices rather than conventional institutional or commercial structures.
